This Japanese Couple Got Married In Tamil Style Out Of Pure Love For The Culture

The thing about culture is that you don’t have to abide by just one of them, you can choose whatever you wish to follow. Unlike religion, you are not born into it, you adopt it as you grow, learn and explore. And that is the beauty of it because you can mix the values and choose your beliefs and do whatever you please.

And that is exactly what this Japanese couple decided to do. Chiharu Obata and Yuto Ninaga got married in their Japanese ceremony on 1st April. 2017. However, out of their sheer love for Tamil culture and traditions, they decided to get married again in a Tamilian way.

The wedding took place in Madurai, as suggested by her friend V Vinodhini who lives in Japan with her family. Chiharu, without giving it a second thought decided she wants to go through with it, and voila! She did!

Chiharu’s  parents, Keiji Obata and Naomi Obata, and Yuto’s brothers, Tunehito and Chiaki, and his sister, Junko, all of them came down to Madurai to attend the wedding. From wedding invitation being printed only in Tamil to the newly-wed couple playing traditional games after the ceremony, they did it all.

When asked about how they feel, Yuto said,

“I feel bit nervous and had not been to such rituals. But my wife has been here and participated in all family functions and events in Tamil Nadu.”

On the other hand, Chiharu was really excited and loving every minute of it. She spoke in Tamil,

“Tamilila enakku ellame pidikum (I love everything in Tamil).”

It is just so heart-warming to see fellow foreigners admiring and adopting our culture to make it a part of one of the most important days of their lives. Makes you feel proud to belong to this culture, right?
