They say, no matter how high you rise, and how tall you grow, you must never forget your roots. And one man, who I can surely say has never forgotten where he’s come from has to be apna bhidu Jaggu Dada, Jackie Shroff.
Despite his stardom, Jackie Shroff remains, to this day, your friendly neighbourhood bhidu at heart and in spirit! Hear him talk, with a random gaali or a ‘Maushi chi‘ here and there, and you’ll know!
And only recently, we got yet another glimpse of his humility when he had an unexpected homecoming!
Jackie Shroff was out for dinner with actor and friend Arjan Bajwa in Colaba, when a chance encounter brought him to the house he used to live in almost 30 years ago!
In the caption of one of his several posts, Bajwa narrates how he and Jackie were driving back from dinner in Colaba when at Marine Lines, when an unexpected encounter led to a night to remember!
“Me & Jackie sir en route bandra get intercepted by few students on marine drive, they stay at Jackie Sir’s old Teen Batti house now. Their humble request turns into a dream come true when he decides to drop by (with me in tow) at the place where he grew up and became the legend.”
For those not aware, the actor used to live in a single room in a chawl in Mumbai’s, Walkeshwar, and was Teen Batti’s Jackie Dada before becoming Subhash Ghai’s Hero, Jackie Shroff.
At first, Jaggu Dada, who was driving, continued towards Bandra. And then suddenly, he took a u-turn and headed towards Walkeshwar! Thankfully for us, Bajwa captured the entire visit on camera so we too could enjoy the sweet little homecoming!
And what do you know, the kids who had invited them over were indeed waiting for Jaggu Dada’s homecoming!
“Woh light-bight chalu karke baithela hai woh bacchalog!”
Welcome home, bhidu!
Now what you watch next might just warm the cockles of your heart!
As soon as Jackie Shroff entered, the thrilled youngsters began cheering for him and touching his feet. The childlike excitement on the actor’s face was palpable, as he began reminiscing about how the house looked back in his time! He even gave everyone a thorough tour!
He described quite animatedly where the kitchen used to be, and how his mother would make rotis for him while he sat next to her on the floor.
He even gave advice to the kids to keep the house clean.
“Bhai bathroom toh saaf rakh!”
You’d think the man loved this house full of memories so much, then he might as well buy it, right? He could totally afford to purchase it now for keepsakes. But there was a twist!
Jackie Shroff, in his candid as ever style, revealed how he had tried to buy the room from the owner but they just refused!
“Usko bola main rehta hoon wahan pe toh. Nahi de raha hai g***du. Nahi, c*****a nahi de raha hai, usko bola maine.”
Oh no wait! You have to hear him say it!
LOL! Jaggu Dada, please never change!

Kya bhankas karrela hai, makaan maalik? De de na bhidu ko kholi uska!
