Italian Athlete Loses Wedding Ring During Olympics, Posts A Beautiful Apology Note For Wife

Gianmarco Tamberi, a 32-year-old high jumper from Italy, was waving his country’s flag high while sailing down the River Seine on July 26 during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. It was during that time he lost something that was very precious to him – his wedding ring. It slipped out of his finger and dived right into the river, leaving him distraught.

Losing one’s wedding ring, in many cultures, is a symbol of bad luck and is a very heartbreaking experience. Anyone else in his position wouldn’t know how to confront their spouse after such an incident. However, Gianmarco Tamberi decided to turn the sad memory around and wrote the most precious and romantic apology note for his wife, Chiara Bontempi Tamberi.

Taking to Instagram, Gianmarco apologised to Chiara saying that probably it was because of his lost weight before the Olympics or just the rush of the opening ceremony that made his ring slip out of his finger. But if he were to lose his ring, he wouldn’t have it any other way, for the ring fell into the River Seine in the city of love.

“I’m sorry my love, I’m so sorry. Too much water, too many kg lost in the past few months or maybe the uncontrollable enthusiasm of what we were doing. Probably all three things, just the fact that I heard it parade, I saw it fly…. I followed her with a glance until I saw her bouncing inside the boat. A Glimmer of Hope … But unfortunately the bounce was in the wrong direction and floating more than a thousand times in the air I saw her dive into the water like that was the only place she wanted to be,” he wrote.

He went on to add that if she likes, they would throw her wedding ring into the riverbed as well, so that both rings can submerge into Seine and be together forever. This also would give them a chance to renew their vows and get married again.

“But if it was meant to happen, if I’m supposed to lose this faith, I couldn’t imagine a better place. It will stay forever in the riverbed of the city of love, flown away while I tried to carry the Italian tricolor as high as possible during the opening ceremony of the most important sporting event in the world. If I had to invent an apology I would never have been this imaginative. I think there might be a huge poetic side to yesterday’s misdeed, and if you want, we’ll throw yours into that river, too, so they’ll be together forever, and we’ll have one more excuse to, like you’ve always asked, renew our vows and get married anew,” he added.
