Yesterday marked the 159th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and like every year, people of Kolkata celebrated like it was their own day! As the lockdown didn’t permit gatherings, Tagore fans from all across the world took to social media to post videos of poetry recitations and renditions of popular Rabindra Sangeet. Some even donned a saree and danced to his songs!
Rabindranath Tagore’s contribution to arts, literature, and politics isn’t unknown to the world. Which is probably why, Israel named one of their streets in honour of Tagore’s 159th birth anniversary, reports India Today.
The news was shared by the official Twitter account of ‘Israel in India’. The honour was given in memory of Tagore’s “contribution to mankind”.

Thank you, #Israel @netanyahu, for honouring, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, one of the greatest intellectuals of the world of all time. Tagore is to India what the great sage Haim Nachman Bialik is to Israel.
