A New Makeup Challenge’s In Town And It Involves Painting An Instagram Post On Your Face!

T’is the season of viral challenges, peeps! And after the completely unnecessary #KikiChallenge, there’s another new one doing the rounds. Now, I haven’t quite made up my mind about whether this challenge is unnecessary or awesome. Mostly because it is a makeup challenge, and it is a little too STUNNING to look at! Say hello to InstaCeption!

What is InstaCeption, you ask? As if the name isn’t an obvious giveaway, InstaCeption is an Instagram post about a makeup trend WITHIN an Instagram post about a makeup trend! Have a dekko!

Ooooooh geddit? Instagram + Inception = InstaCeption!

And just like that, Instagram = Blown!

Now, two people played Leonardo DiCaprio with this InstaCeption idea….

Australian makeup artist @dom.skii came up with the idea!

You wanna know the craziest thing though? In the movie Inception, Leo’s character’s name is also Dom! I mean, what are the odds, right?

Another aspiring makeup artist who turned this brilliant idea into a challenge was Abby Roberts!

YouTuber, Internet celeb and makeup artist James Charles too jumped on the Instaception bandwagon!

And pretty soon, the Instaception makeup challenge was viral, with people across the world painting Instagram post screenshots on their faces!

I knew I was going to do the “Insta-ception” trend but I figured I would also take the time to make a pictorial on the look (and how to make the IG box) too, since I was using the @doseofcolors x @iluvsarahii palette!! I also really wanted to do this trend because it meant something that I took a little differently. It kind of embodies the pressure of being perfect on social media and never having any flaws, when in reality, we’re all flawed. We all have imperfections. That’s what makes everyone so individualistic. Embrace them! If you look at it really, it’s quite a simple genius trick for a skilled makeup artist. Just do up one of your eyes in a completely OTT glam way, and then carefully paint the Instagram white borders above and below it.

With a little detailing, you’re all set!

Some even tried to turn the whole challenge into a meme!

A few of them used the challenge to send out the message that perfection is an illusion and the reality is always far from perfect. And that’s okay!

Perfection is a Perception (Part Two/Three) • Yeah, I did the instaception challenge. To prove a point. Perfection is a filter, one that doesn't exist in real life. Notice how my eye make up looks, it'll never be perfect. My skin, it'll never be perfect. My editing skills, they'll never be perfect. My use of language to bring out a meaningful point, it'll never be perfect. • As a Christian, I am aware of how perfect God is. We are made in his image. He made us perfect. But yet, we can never be perfect. Here's where perfection as a perception fits perfectly in. God made us and we are the best we can be. As an individual, God made me the perfect Ngeruka Chelsea He could make . I cannot be anyone else even if I tried. However we humans title certain features and gifts as perfect and strive for them. We are striving for things that aren't who we are. That's where our imperfect nature comes in. Making us believe that we are not perfect in our own ways. Yet we are. Don't go seeking for perfection in something or someone else. Focus, embrace and learn to love your own perfect self. A beautiful way to look at it, don’t you agree?

The Instaception challenge sends many layered messages. The contrast that the rest of their bare faces make against the Instagram post-painted part says a lot about the amount of effort that makeup artists put into their posts!

And at the end of the day, makeup artists everywhere, irrespective of gender, geography, and skill, are uniting to take up this challenge! And it is quite the vision!
