This Couple’s Infertility Announcement Photoshoots Are Funny But Thought Provoking

Pregnancy announcements are beautiful. They are an artistic way of telling the world that you’ll be going through the amazing experience of giving birth to a new life. But, a dark side also exists to this. Every year, many couples battle infertility and are unable to do so even if they want a child.

Spencer and Whitney Blake are one such couple. But they are taking another route in dealing with their problem – Humour. They are making their own infertility announcements and their blog is getting a lot of hits for it.

Here are their announcements.

Spencer and Whitney have adopted two boys and are happy with their little family. But they wanted to ‘celebrate’ their infertility during the Infertility Awareness Week, and hence, decided to go ahead with these quirky and funny announcement photographs.

With every post, the Blakes write the following disclaimer:

“Disclaimer: We are the happy parents of two little boys who joined our family through the miracle of adoption after we had struggled for several years with infertility. Though the infertility is still there, the struggle is mostly not. What used to be such a consuming, challenging part of our life is now usually more of a passing thought. We are so grateful to be parents, but we have not forgotten how lonely and horrible infertility can feel, which is why we thought we’d create something to connect with others who are going through what we went through.”

Spencer and Whitney don’t mean any disrespect to other infertile couples, neither do they intend to poke fun at pregnancy announcements of other couples the world over. They say on their blog:

“Since humor is one of our coping mechanisms, we thought we’d use that to hop on the creative announcement bandwagon in our own infertile way. Of course, we’re not suggesting infertile people announce their deepest struggle with a silly meme. Nor are we making fun of pregnant people. We’ve just found that laughing at our problems sometimes makes them feel smaller, and couldn’t resist the chance to poke fun at infertility.”

It’s at these times that we realise that the problems we face in our daily lives are much smaller than the real life-damaging problems faced by others, the world over. Spencer and Whitney Blake have gone through adoption, but still face and successfully tackle infertility, and they are spreading a little bit of hope and comfort that all is not always lost.

Our happy thoughts are with you Spencer and Whitney!
