Indore Gang Dupes Amazon Of ₹30 Lakh With Fake E-mail Ids And Mobile Numbers

Fake ids have been vogue since, well, people knew how to make fake ids. We’ve used it to get alcohol, get into pubs, avail free trial packs and for various other secretive purposes that I don’t want to reveal to the general public.

Now, most of these endeavours are harmless, unless someone develops an addiction for drugs or cheating. But one man (along with a few others) has caused some serious damage to Amazon with the help of fake ids.

According to NDTV, a 27-YO Indore man, who was apparently a part of a gang was arrested on Wednesday for duping Amazon. SP Jitendra Singh said,

“The gang used to get refund of the amount paid in exchange for these gadgets from Amazon by saying that the parcel sent by the company was empty. But in reality, these devices were taken out from parcel and sold them to the local shopkeepers at a lower price.”

The accused’s name is Mohammed Mahuwala. He was arrested after Amazon filed a complaint.

Mahuwala was part of a gang that created multiple fake e-mail IDs and used various mobile numbers. And they used those accounts to purchased branded items, expensive smartphones and other gadgets via Amazon.

SP Singh said that the gang had ordered around 50 gadgets and smartphones, that cost Amazon around Rs 30 lakh. In addition to that two expensive smartphones, a wireless router, a headphone, two smart watches and a credit card were also recovered. And while Mahuwala is in the police’s custody, they’re searching for the rest of the gang members.

A sub-inspector of the cyber police has said that some of the employees currently working in Amazon’s local warehouse are being treated as suspects as well. Because given the number of security checks in place, it’s almost impossible to conduct such a massive fraud without an insider. Let’s hope the police successfully catches these robbers and helps Amazon recover their money.
