“Indian Women Aren’t Allowed To Have Boyfriends,” Says Meerut College Principal

The UP elections this time, brought the country much more surprise than it anticipated. It brought home the news of Yogi Adityanath becoming the chief minister and it was the only the beginning of Twitter becoming the voice of dissent. Whether you voiced yours or not, social media was abuzz with jibes/memes and TBH, my heart went out for Vin Diesel.

But that is not the cry anymore. Recently, Yogi Adityanath gave a ‘go’ to ‘anti-Romeo’ squads across the state to ‘ensure the safety of women from eve-teasers’ but according to some guardians of the galaxy, Indian society doesn’t allow girls to just be!

According to News 18, the principal of Raghunath College in Meerut, who also happens to be a woman, has expressed that women in India are not allowed to have boyfriends at all.

“Girls shouldn’t have boyfriends for Indian society doesn’t permit us to have boyfriends.”

In fact, the principal, Sneha Gupta, even confessed to have banned cell phones in the college because boyfriends and their calls distract girls.

While only the UP Police is allowed to form squads (that should ideally have a male and female cop), members of Hindu Yuva Vahini have formed teams outside universities and colleges to keep surveillance on Romeos. Permission? What’s that?

“God helps people doing good work.”

Is this really 2017 we are living in? Where a woman has to authenticate that she is in the company of their brother? Or where two consenting adults are not allowed to fall in love? Is that what we are leaving for our progeny? Well, I’m no political expert but I’m a woman and I detest this! Also, don’t know if God is helping the ‘good work’ but God surely has some saving to do.
