Engineer Sanjeev Sharma Went From Working For Indian Railways To Elon Musk’s SpaceX

Meet Sanjeev Sharma, a mechanical engineer who has wowed the Internet with his incredible career path, going from working with Indian Railways to contributing to space exploration at Elon Musk’s SpaceX!

Sanjeev started his journey with a degree from IIT Roorkee, one of India’s top engineering institutes. Fresh out of college, he secured a prestigious government job with Indian Railways as a Divisional Mechanical Engineer. For the next 11 years, Sharma held multiple roles, including Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer. It was a stable career, but Sharma wasn’t done yet.

In 2002, he decided to follow his passion for engineering even further and moved to the United States for a one-year MS program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. After completing his degree, he landed a job at Seagate Technology, a well-known data storage company, where he worked for five years, eventually becoming a Senior Mechanical Engineer.

While working at Seagate, he also completed an MS in Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota in 2008.

In 2013, the stars aligned for Sharma when he joined SpaceX as a Dynamics Engineer. He led structural dynamics efforts, working on some of the most exciting projects like Falcon 9’s booster recovery and reusability. His expertise was instrumental in launching several successful missions at SpaceX.

In 2018, Sanjeev Sharma took on a new challenge, joining Matternet Inc., a leader in drone delivery systems, before heading back to SpaceX in 2022. Today, he’s a Principal Engineer for Starship Dynamics, contributing to the future of space exploration.
