Indian Army Major Got Beaten Up By A Bangalore Auto Driver Because He Was North Indian

A 33-year-old major of the Indian Army had to deal with a nasty ordeal in Bangalore and he may have lost his life had it not been for a techie. The major was dragged out his vehicle and beaten up in the middle of the street at Kaggadasapura main road on Friday, 5 pm.

As the major’s SUV had a Haryana number registered on it, an auto-driver tried to berate him by saying he didn’t know how to drive because he’s from North India. When the victim protested saying he would file a complaint and took pictures of the driver, matters went out of hands.

Very soon, the driver was joined by other people who ganged up on the major. They started damaging the  vehicle, shattering its windshield.

While most people remained silent spectators, Murali Kartik, a techie working with the Manyata Tech Park came to the major’s rescue and even took him to the Sri Lakshmi Hospital in Kaggadasapura.

This what he had to say:

I was behind the victim’s car and witnessed the whole incident. The major was innocent and the auto driver picked a fight for no reason. The victim did not even come out of the car and was unable to understand the language in which the driver was speaking. Four other passersby, who were in no way connected to the incident, ganged up with the driver and started damaging the vehicle. The victim was then pulled out of the car and badly beaten. There were nearly 40 onlookers and nobody came to the victim’s rescue, despite his pleas for help. I started pushing the assailants, asking them not to beat him as he would die. With great difficulty, I rescued the victim and the accused ran away.

The major’s friends were called upon after he was safely admitted in hospital. The men in uniform were grateful and more than impressed with Kartik’s act of courageousness.

This is what a Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force had to say about Kartik:

We really need to thank the civilian who helped our friend who has been posted in Bengaluru for the last two years. The victim has been advised complete bed-rest and is not in a position to speak. The condition of the victim would have been even more critical had the civilian not displayed courage to counter the five weapon-wielding gang-members.

Although, it was a very nasty incident, this act of bravery from Kartik’s part simply restored the faith in humanity just when it was to be lost again.  The case has been registered and police is looking for the accused auto driver.
