Money Heist (aka La Casa de Papel) fans, did you know that the show has a desi connection? Indian actor Ajay Jethi plays the role of hacker Shakir in the Emmy award-winning Spanish show. Furthermore, when director Álex Rodrigo was asked if he was aware of the crime drama’s popularity with desi fans, Hindustan Times quoted him saying,
“I have a friend, who is an Indian actress, Usha Jadhav, and she told me about the phenomenon in India, and all I can say is thank you.”
Which is why when he was interviewed recently, he was also asked to cast popular Indian stars if a desi version was ever made and he happily obliged. Based solely on appearance, he believed Thalapathy Vijay would be perfect for the Professor.

He was shown a clip of Ayushmann Khurrana playing “Bella Ciao” on the piano and he marvelled at “the glasses, the movement,” and pronounced that the actor would do a good job as the Professor.

I want to be the professor. That’s why I’m wearing similar glasses and playing Bella Ciao. I want to put this out in the universe. Hello reverent filmmakers, are you listening? Please! I’m dying to do something like this. I’m itching to go on sets and work, like each and every human on this planet. We all want to go out and work. But patience is a virtue they say. Till then Bella Ciao. 🎹 #MoneyHeist

Now can someone please ask him to cast Indian actresses for the female characters of Lisbon, Nairobi, and Tokyo?
