Money Heist (aka La Casa de Papel) fans, did you know that the show has a desi connection? Indian actor Ajay Jethi plays the role of hacker Shakir in the Emmy award-winning Spanish show. Furthermore, when director Álex Rodrigo was asked if he was aware of the crime drama’s popularity with desi fans, Hindustan Times quoted him saying,
“I have a friend, who is an Indian actress, Usha Jadhav, and she told me about the phenomenon in India, and all I can say is thank you.”
Which is why when he was interviewed recently, he was also asked to cast popular Indian stars if a desi version was ever made and he happily obliged. Based solely on appearance, he believed Thalapathy Vijay would be perfect for the Professor.

He was shown a clip of Ayushmann Khurrana playing “Bella Ciao” on the piano and he marvelled at “the glasses, the movement,” and pronounced that the actor would do a good job as the Professor.
