India Is Going To Sue The Queen Of England To Get Back The Koh-I-Noor Diamond

What was once the largest known diamond of the world, belonged to India. Currently, that £100 Million (₹ 1000 Crores) jewel, which was presented to Queen Victoria, by force, in 1850, is a part of Britain’s crown jewels. And now, India wants it back.

A group of Bollywood stars and businessmen called ‘Mountain of Light’ (which means Koh-i-noor) has decided to sue Queen Elizabeth II and demand the return of 105-carat Koh-i-noor.

The co-founder of Indian Leisure group Titos, David de Souza, is helping to fund this legal action and has also instructed the British lawyers to begin the High Court proceedings.

“The Koh-i-Noor is one of the many artifacts taken from India under dubious circumstances. Colonisation did not only rob our people of wealth, it destroyed the country’s psyche itself,” he said.

Narendra Modi’s first visit to the United Kingdom as the prime minister of India will coincide with this lawsuit about Koh-i-noor being returned to India.

The longest serving MP of the Asian origin, Keith Vaz, had raised the point of the diamond being returned to India during Modi’s visit.

“What a wonderful moment it would be if when PM Modi finishes his visit, he returns to India with the promise of the diamond’s return,” he said.

After BJP fell on its face in the Bihar elections, this Koh-i-noor returning mission can definitely win it some brownie points, if successful. Although, the demands of returning Koh-i-noor to India had already been rejected once by British Government in 2013.
