Twitter Starts Raining Memes After India Bans 59 Chinese Apps Including TikTok, Shein

Yesterday, the Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps including one of the people’s favourite TikTok, reports The Indian Express. This decision comes after the escalating tension between the two countries in Ladakh. Some of the other popular apps in the list which have now been banned are Shein, Cam Scanner, Clash of Kings, UC Browser, ShareIt, Club Factory, Viva Video, Beauty Plus, etc.

According to News18, the IT Ministry claimed that they invoked section 69 A of the IT Act which gives them the power to block access to apps that “engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order”.

IE reports that users were likely to soon see a message saying “access to the apps has been restricted on the request of the government”.

And as it was expected, the announcement started a massive meme-fest online! TikTok and Shein users are heartbroken right now. On the other hand, PubG users are relieved that the popular gaming app wasn’t banned… but that’s because PubG is a game developed by South-Korean video-game holding company Krafton Inc.
