Animal Lovers Rejoice! India Now Offers A PG Diploma In Animal Protection Law

We often see cases of animal cruelty in India. But however awful the abuse on animals might be, we are only left frowning upon the offenders in our society. The seriousness of crimes against animals have never been taken seriously – until now. There’s a good news for anyone who loves animals!

India will now offer a post-graduate diploma in Animal Protection Law. Which means that, people who wish to help animals in making their lives better now have a chance to do just that. The course is set to be one-year long, will be imparted in distance-learning mode with a few contact classes every semester, as reported by Indian Express.

The Animal Law Centre at National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR University of Law), Hyderabad collaborated with the Humane Society International/ India to launch seemingly India’s first academic course on animal protection laws.

The diploma course has been distributed in 4 parts: animal welfare issues, animal law and ethics, laws regarding animal cruelty and laws regarding wildlife. The course is aimed for government officials, animal protection advocates, students from all fields and anyone with an interest in the field of animal protection.

The programme will consist of topics including challenges faced on the ground, with respect to cruelty towards animals, policy development and research. Students enrolled for this course will get anytime access to reading materials, presentations and video lectures on a online platform developed specifically for the course.

In order to complete the course successfully, a student will have to achieve a minimum grade equivalent to 50% marks in every subject. However, the candidate who fails to obtain the minimum grade shall be given chance to re-appear for the examination whenever the same is conducted till the completion of the maximum period that is three years.

The course is now accepting applicants and the fee is ₹30,000. So, anyone who wishes to dedicate their profession for animal welfare, now’s your chance.
