Guy Shares Story Of Losing Self-Confidence Due Peer Pressure After Getting Into IIT

As many IIT and engineering memes and jokes we come across, the harsh truth remains that the pressure of the rat race is very much real and thousands of students succumb to the expectations of others. Previously, a district collector from Kota also wrote a heartfelt letter to the parents of all IIT aspirants to sensitize them about the pressure of their expectations.

An Indian guy recently took to Reddit to share his story from being a small-town kid to getting into IIT, but how his self-confidence took a hit in the process. Check it out:

Journey of a underperforming IITian from india

He detailed the entire timeline of his journey, from being the class topper to joining a coaching class after an uncle advised him, scraping through his exams, and finally joining IIT. Being completely out of his comfort zone, his self-confidence took a hit when he found that his peers were performing better than him. He mentions how it got worse for him after the first year, after his juniors approached him asking the things he does in college.

Soon, he found himself to be more withdrawn with his grades dropping. He narrates how not getting placed at a good company as his other friends did, made him avoid family reunions. Cut to present-day, in his late twenties, he concludes by narrating how he got a message from a high school junior asking to get into IIT, and he laughed at the sad irony of it all.
