In case you do not know, when students are busy with extra-curricular activities, competitions and fests, they expect the teachers to grant them attendance for the classes that they miss in the process. This is because the students are representing the institution in these competitions, so it is kind of a given that the teachers would be lenient in matters of attendance.
However, an IIT professor was anything but lenient and supportive after one student, who was busy with debate competitions asked for attendance. A second-year student shared a screenshot on X, claiming that it was the professor’s response to the student asking for attendance.
In the screenshot, we see how the professor allegedly explained that people like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of college to pursue what they believed in instead of going around asking for “concessions” from professors. He stated that if the student strongly believed in other pursuits then they should be brave enough to drop out and make something worthwhile in their lives.
“But we both know you are never going to do that, and we both know that a debate competition has no tangible value in the real world. If you want respect, demonstrate bravery and strength, not cowardice,” the professor allegedly wrote.

However, people online weren’t impressed by this. Many slammed the professor for taking advantage of his position, being unsupportive and having an inflated ego. Many claimed that this is the reason why innumerable students cannot develop a proper personality as they are buried in books because of such professors.
Here’s what some people had to say:
Prof acting like attending his lecture will make any difference. Most college professors are on a different ego trip, while their lectures remain out dated and outclassed by random youtube channels. Mandatory attendance is a joke

Sorry but this is in poor taste. Why so much drama? Just say yes or no. Why take pot shots at a young person?

I have always believed most profs like this are frustrated in life and take it out on the students. Extremely rare to find someone who actually engages the students and inspires them

Dropping out and building trillion-dollar empires like Gates or Zuckerberg is exceptional, not the rule.

Last two lines is just pettiness. If they didn’t let impulse get the better of them would have had some respect…

What IIT is it? I never had any attendance rule in any of the classes I have taught at IITD. Such rules are pointless and the profs use it to hide their own incompetence.
As a student, I always went to classes if I found the instructor engaging and the class interactive. As an…

Wow, professors like these should understand that while a debate competition won’t hold as much value in the real word, it certainly can trigger a butterfly effect into developing a personality which will have a tangible effect on society.

My hatred for many things Indian solidify as I come across aspects of the society that I loathe.
A nation obsessed with hierachies, power tripping, lack of respect for younger folks, bureaucrats who are hellbent on making lives of people a living hell ! List is endless. https://t.co/bdvFiwwZyI

Reason why many students in india don’t have vocabulary or any skills for that matter and remain bookworms or just give up is such professors or teachers who don’t give to fucks about anything other then academia https://t.co/WcS5NvcjxP

Meanwhile our professors at IIIT Delhi would often postpone deadlines to lift some pressure off of students. One professor recorded classes even post COVID and would share them.
These are the kind of professors you respect, not the guy who sent this sadistic reply. https://t.co/HaW8DelsL1
