IIT Bombay Student Shares A Glimpse Of Campus Life, Calls It A ‘Tech Nerd’s Paradise’

Every year, countless engineering aspirants across India dream of securing a seat at IIT Bombay, one of the country’s most prestigious institutes. One student, Vijendra Kumar Vaishya, recently made it to IIT Bombay for his master’s in computer science. After having spent a month on campus, he shared his experience on X. Here’s a glimpse into what life is like at IIT Bombay.

Vijendra’s first impression of the campus is that it’s a “tech nerd’s paradise”, especially in the Computer Science department. Describing the atmosphere, he wrote, “You’ll find people with their laptops and endless coffee, and plenty of chill spots to hang out.” Whether it’s working on projects, discussing the latest tech, or simply relaxing between classes, the CSE department is always buzzing with activity.

Vijendra also praised the supportive environment created by both the faculty and the students. “The lab crew is fantastic – any question, just ask. Seniors are always around to help, and they’re not even grumpy about it!”

Living on campus, Vijendra describes the hostel rooms as “cozy”. However, he admits he often spends late nights in the CSE department, which is open 24X7. “The campus is basically one giant study hall. I crash in the CSE department all night because it’s always open,” he shared.

One of the highlights of campus life that Vijendra enjoyed was the freedom in the hostels. “There’s no hostel curfew. Yes, you read that right – girls’ hostels don’t lock up either!” he posted, pointing out that IIT Bombay promotes an open and flexible environment for its students. With fewer restrictions, students have more control over their schedules.

Vijendra also shared that his classes are scheduled only twice a week, giving him plenty of time for self-study and extracurricular activities. Food is also not a concern, as he mentioned, “Food is convenient, with 24/7 ordering options available within the hostel.” But Vijendra did offer a playful warning to new students – “You’ll be too busy to date. Your new love affair will be labs, assignments, and events.”
