In A First, IAS Officer Drives Volvo To Encourage Women Drivers, Receives Flak

Our country has started recruiting women in various new roles like that of a soldier in the Indian Army. Though the scope of opportunities for women has broadened, we still see fewer women who come forward to join the unusual and unique job openings.

One such job is that of a bus driver. Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) employs 14,000 drivers in all irrespective of their gender but currently has only one female driver, reports News 18.

In order to encourage women to join the services and send a message of women empowerment, BMTC managing director C Shikha recently drove a Volvo. This is the first time an IAS officer has taken such a step and driven a bus in India, reports TOI.

While this came as an inspiration for many on social media, others questioned Shikha if she has a driving license.

However, Shikha told TNIE that she was driving in the campus of a driving school and requires no license for the same. Other politicians also came in support of her and slammed trolls for spreading hatred.

What do you think about the incident? Is it a yay or nay from your side? Tell us!
