If anyone asked you who’s the one person you love the most in your life, you’d probably always say ‘my mom’. But, no one is perfect, not even our mothers. When you have those horribly pointless fights with your mother about picking up clothes, food and everything trivial under the sun, you bravely resolve to never be like your mother. Well atleast not absolutely like her.
But then there are those eye opening, life changing moments when every person realizes that the apple hasn’t fallen very far from the tree.
1. When you can’t stand a dirty bathroom and quickly turn into a frenzied bathroom genie.
2. While bargaining.
When you find yourself saying ‘200Rs for a kg of apples? Aapko lagta hai mein Alibaug se aai hoon?’ And mimic your mother’s coy walk out of the store, only to be called back and given the same apples for the real price.
3. When your friends say let’s go to Bandra to eat brownies and then we can go to Colaba for dinner.
Nooo! Opposite places, too much traffic, lots of money and it’s impractical as all hell. Let’s be practical and go to like one place. please. Only to hear ‘God you sound just like your mother’.
4. When people ask you for life advice and you realize you’re basically repeating a recorded version of what you’ve heard all your life.
‘No matter what you decide to do, always be happy’, ‘
5. When you get mad AF when people waste food/ wear dirty slipper and walk all over your room/ leave the dirty dishes in the sink even though you were doing 2/3 of these things at home.
6. When you go shopping and realize your wardrobe is starting to look scarily similar to your mom’s.
7. When the same person who used to live life one day at a time now starts making plans for December 2017.
8. You start to dislike the same kind of food she doesn’t like and suddenly have a new found appreciation for home food.
9. You realize that shopping for bedsheet, curtains and even the floor mats gives you some sort of strange happiness that you faintly remember your mom experiencing.
10. When you see young love, you think ‘Oh God, where is his tongue going, they are too young for this shit’.
11. Your last thought before you leave home is ‘Did I switch off the geyser/ gas?’
12. Ever so often you say to yourself ‘Can you believe this generation?’
13. When you hear yourself say ‘I told you so’ , more often than not.
14. When you talk to your neighbourhood child squad, it feels like you’re looking into a mirror from your own childhood.
Even your baby talk is the same as your mom.
15. There was a time when you spend money as soon as you got your hands on it but now you find yourself making lists and budgets as soon as your salary comes in
You have a whole new appreciation for savings and fixed deposits.
16. When you answer the phone and someone says ‘Aunty, is Krupa there?’
So now your laugh, your voice and even you’re style of talking is a reflection of your mom.
17. When you learn to appreciate qualities she appreciates in people and dislike certain traits that your mom uses to filter people.
Now you’re surrounded by people who in some small way are ‘Mom approved’.
It’s not a bad thing, infact it’s somewhat genius, so embrace it and make life a more practical place.
