Did You Know Indian Airlplanes Dump Poop Mid-Air? 50K Fine, If They Ever Do It Again!

When you’re on a flight, have you ever had the completely irrational fear that maybe when you use the loo your “waste” is simply falling through the air? Turns out, your fear isn’t all that irrational.

It has just been announced that airlines in India will be fined ₹50,000 if their planes discard human waste into the air mid-flight.

The petitioner, a retired Army officer and Delhi resident, alleged that airlines had been dumping human waste over residential complexes near the airport.

In fact, in his petition, the Army officer went into quite a bit of graphic detail.

“Walls and floors (of my house) are splattered with large patches of excreta dumped by aircraft flying in front of the airport.”

The aviation ministry has challenged the claims and said that the toilets on planes store waste in specialised tanks which are cleared only after the plane has landed. However, international aviation authorities have acknowledged that mid-air lavatory leaks may occur on rare occasions.

There has also been a case where a woman on the ground was hit by a ‘football-sized’ turd of poop!

I’m certainly not buying an “airport-facing” property anytime soon. 😛
