Employee Falls Sick & Asks For Leave, HR Says Sick Leaves Should Be Informed 7 Days Beforehand

Every employee working at a company has a designated number of sick and casual leaves they can take throughout the year. It sounds simple, right? You need a leave, you inform the office and your leave is granted. But that’s not always the case. In many offices, bosses, managers and the HR don’t grant leaves that easily. They either make you feel guilty about taking a leave from work, or whip up some new rule you never heard of before, or downright say ‘no’.

A user took to Reddit’s r/antiwork subreddit to share a screenshot of a conversation they had with the HR. Upon falling sick one day, they informed the HR that they would be taking the day off. The HR, on the other hand, claimed that to take a sick or casual leave, employees have to inform the office 7 days in advance.

How does one know 7 days in advance that they are supposed to fall sick? If they had known that they would be falling sick 7 days from a certain day, wouldn’t they take precautions to avoid that sickness? And what if an employee has a viral medical condition? Would the office take responsibility if the infection is spread amongst other employees?
