US Residents Unite At 8 PM To ‘Howl For Healthcare Workers’, Watch Videos

Last month, quarantined Spaniards started a wholesome nightly ritual. At 10 pm, they would come to their windows and balconies to cheer and clap for the medical staff fighting the coronavirus. On March 22, Indians united at 5 pm to bang thaalis and convey gratitude to all frontline workers including cops, food delivery agents and grocery store owners.

Now, residents of the United States are appreciating the hard work of healthcare workers by howling at 8 pm, reports Fox News. These community shouts are being organized through Facebook events like “Go Outside and Howl” as well as groups on messaging platforms.

For some people though, the ritual helps ease the frustration of not being able to go outside or being away from family. Los Angeles Times quoted an artist named Amy Kalish saying,

“It’s practically silent for 23 hours and 55 minutes a day. We get out there with our 14-year-old son and our weird little rescue dog, and we let loose. It’s a beautiful, connected, cathartic feeling. We know we’re not alone.”

Reports suggest that #HowlForHealthcareWorkers was started by a retiree named Hugh Kuhn who was inspired by coyotes. Soon people started joining in with a few bringing whistles and musical instruments. Take a look.
