Things get lost in translation – it’s something that’s a given. An English translation of an Urdu poem will never be as beautiful. Similarly, the English translation of Hindi songs will never be accurate, and I am here to argue this point with enough proof!
Recently, people online posted screenshots of popular Hindi songs with their English translations that appeared below. And honestly, nobody was prepared for this. Raavan’s song ‘Behne De’ hilariously translated to ‘Give sisters. Give me your sisters!”
Similarly, this scene from ‘Queen’ where the women talk about losing their virginity on their wedding night (rather subtly, if you remember) translates to…
Yeh bandhan toh pyaar ka bandhan hai, janmon ka sangam hai translates to…
(I can’t even)
