Shimla meteorological center director Manmohan Singh said that the town of Shimla received the second-highest rainfall in a day during April, having received 83 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, which led to slippery conditions on the roads, Yahoo News reports.

The coldest in the state was in was recorded in Lahaul-Spiti at minus 0.3 degrees celsius with 12 cm snowfall. On the other hand, Kinnaur district’s Kalpa recorded a minimum of 0.1 degrees with 11.4 cm snow. Widespread rains were experienced in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh.

As per a report in The Tribune, local orchardists felt it was very unusual to receive snow at this time of the year in April-end. Shamsher Singh Thakur, who is a leading apple grower in Manali, said, “We are back to heaters. It seems that the winters are back.” Snow at this time of the year is no good news for them as they are yet to ascertain its effect on their crops.
