Harnaaz Sandhu Reveals She Suffers From Celiac Disease After Being Body-Shamed For LFW Look

A few days ago, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu was massively body-shamed for her Lakme Fashion Week look. In the pictures and videos that surfaced online, Sandhu did look like she gained a few pounds but the incessant and unnecessary comments that many people online threw on her body were uncalled for.

Harnaaz Sandhu, in an interview addressing the trolling, said that previously she was shamed for being too skinny and now she is being body-shamed for being fat. She further went on to reveal that she suffers from celiac disease, an immune disorder, reported Moneycontrol.

Celiac disease is triggered by food containing gluten causing both weight loss and gain. It can cause long-lasting digestive troubles and prevents the body from receiving all the nutrition it needs. People with this disease are often told to cut down on foods like wheat, barley, pasta, bread, rye, cereals, etc. Celiac disease can also lead to anaemia and bone weakness.

“Less common and more serious complications include some types of cancers, such as bowel cancer, and problems affecting pregnancy, such as your baby having a low birth weight,” England’s National Health Service has claimed.

“Many people do not know I am allergic to gluten. I’m one of those individuals who was first bullied that ‘she’s too skinny’ and now they bully me saying ‘she’s fat’. Nobody knows about my Celiac disease. That I can’t eat wheat flour and many other things,” Harnaaz said, quoted TOI.

According to reports, the common symptoms of celiac disease are chronic diarrhoea, constipation, gas, numbness in the legs, missed menstrual cycle, anaemia, infertility, osteoporosis, teeth discolouration, stomach pain, bloating, muscle cramps, joint pain and itchy skin.

Instead of being insensitive and commenting on people’s bodies, we should be kinder to one another. Because we never know what the other person is going through.
