A 7-Year-Old Girl Without Hands Won A Handwriting Competition. Check Out Her Beautiful Writing.

All you need in life is determination. And 7-year-old Anaya Ellick from Virginia, USA has shown remarkable determination by winning a national handwriting competition.

 

Now if you’re wondering what is it that’s so special about Anaya Ellick winning the competition, then here’s the big secret – she was born without hands.

Anaya was born without hands and has adapted herself to write by holding the pencil between her forearms.

 

Anaya beat 50 other children from across the country who had taken part in the competition.

Principal of Greenbrier Christian Academy in Chesapeake, Tracy Cox said about Anaya, “There is truly very little that this girl cannot do. She is a hard worker. She is determined. She is independent. She is a vivacious and a no-excuses type of young lady.”

 

Anaya’s penmanship was part of the category that encourages children with cognitive delays, intellectual, physical or developmental disabilities.

While she writes using both her forearms, Anaya prefers to skip the use of prosthetics.

 

Anaya’s group was judged by a team of special panelists and the winner, (in this case Anaya), was given the Nicholas Maxim Special Award for Excellence in Penmanship.

Kathleen Wright, the director of the committee said, “We looked at her writing and were just stunned to see how well her handwriting was, considering she writes without hands. Her writing sample was comparable to someone who had hands.”

Principal Cox added, “She truly has some of the neatest hardwriting in her class.”

 

Anaya works as hard as her peers and not having hands is not an obstacle for her. Considering her determination, it’s only obvious.
