You Probably Don’t Know What Happens To The Hair Donated By People At Indian Temples

Thousands of devotees make a rather unusual offering to God in Dwarka Tirumala Temple. If the prayers are answered people promise to donate their hair; on every Saturday there are about 95 barbers shaving heads of all the interested devotees. These devotees have no actual idea about what is done to their hair, all they know is they are offering it to God.

All the hair is stored by the temple and exported all across the world to make wigs and hair extensions. The temple make about a million dollars every year in this business. The hair is washed, dried and then sorted in various colors, different lengths and textures. Blond hair is the most expensive and most of the buyers are from China.
