Guy Writes A Breakup Letter To His Gym, Redditors Say, “Can I Copy It?”

If you are a fitness freak, just like most other youngsters, you would be well-versed with the pros and cons of joining a gym. On one hand, gathering all the strength to hit the gym regularly remains the sung-unsung struggle of life. While on the other hand, lies the less difficult part that is, signing up for it. The not so difficult part? Obviously, finding an excuse for not going!

While the part where all the pain lies is – cancelling the membership.

After all, your gym won’t let you go easily! Most of the popular fitness chains ask you to give a written confirmation for cancelling the membership. Likewise, Redditor Mastrrbasser needed to cancel his membership with Planet Fitness after moving to a different state. But as the rule goes, gyms do not want you to leave and hence, they make the cancellation of your subscription as painstaking as they can.

Since gyms outside generally link your credit card to their membership, so that monthly the fees automatically gets deducted, you can’t simply abscond, you need to breakup! (unless you have butt-loads of money). So in India, we have it easy. We sign up, we go for 3 days and we never show up. No questions asked, no membership fees deducted because it’s always prepaid in India (mostly).

Planet Fitness wouldn’t let me cancel over the phone, and required a certified letter to cancel since I live in a different state now. I dropped this in the mail today. from funny

He was asked to write a certified letter to the gym in order to cancel his subscription.

He did the same but with a hint of sarcasm and humour. The guy framed the letter like a heartfelt breakup note. He began with, “It is with deep regret, and a heavy heart that I write this letter, but I must come forth with my intentions with sincerity and honesty. Certain events in my life have put me in a different place, and while it was one of the more taxing decisions I’ve had to make of late, it is the right one. The purpose of this letter is to end my relationship with Planet Fitness.”

He went on to write, “I know I’ve been distant, but it’s because I’ve changed. I have different needs now, and to be frank… you really haven’t changed at all. You’re still that bulky, purple and yellow building with the tootsie rolls at the counter. I don’t want to change you, and it pains me to think that we were once one, but are now separate and in different places.”

Here’s what the fellow Redditors had to say:

The guy concluded the letter with another shocking note which would have certainly left the ones at Planet Fitness, sobbing!

The man signed off the letter with: P.S, my wife also needs to cancel her membership.

Now that’s what we call a heartbreak!
