The Motor Vehicles Act is in full effect and road users have started being extra cautious about traffic violations lest they get fined by cops. One man, in particular, took things to a whole new level by pasting his driver’s license, registration certificate, insurance slip and pollution control certificate on his helmet to avoid challans. But this case might be the most unusual one yet.
31-year-old Zakir Hussain Memon, a fruit shop owner from Bodeli, Gujarat, bought his first two-wheeler in 2007. And ever since then he hasn’t been able to find a helmet that fits. He says, “The shopkeepers give me the biggest size available with them, but my head just does not fit in.”
The Times of India reports that he was caught by traffic officials yesterday for not wearing a helmet. After he explained his situation, the cops let him off without imposing a fine! News18 quoted him saying,
“I respect the law and I want to follow it by wearing a helmet but I have visited all the shops which sell helmets but could not find any helmet which can fit onto my head. I keep all relevant documents with me but as far as a helmet is concerned, I am helpless. I have told the police about my unique problem.”
Vasant Rathva, Assistant-Sub-Inspector (Traffic Branch) remarked,
“It is a unique problem and we have not fined him as we understand his issue. He is a law-abiding person and keeps all relevant documents while driving.”
Mr. Zakir revealed that he can get by without a helmet in his hometown but if ever wanted to go to another town/city, he’d have to drive a car.
