It Was BJP v Congress In Gujarat Elections, But Humour Was The Clear Winner On Twitter!

Unless you’re living under a rock the size of Dwayne Johnson, you’re aware of how thrilling the ongoing Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections are. Then again, a BJP v Congress, Modi v RaGa match is a guaranteed crowd puller always!

The counting began around 8 am this morning and BJP has pulled a winning sweep, as it leads in 99 seats, which is beyond the halfway mark of 92/182 seats.

In fact, former Gujarat CM and current PM Narendra Modi had already sounded the victory bugle by flashing the ‘V’ for ‘Victory’ sign as he arrived at the Parliament this morning.

Of course, with the results out, could the memes and trolls be far behind?

From Rahul Gandhi’s ascension to Congress prez to Hardik Patel to Padmavati, Twitter seemed to cover every base and as expected, hilarity ensued!

1. RamRamRamRaMaraMaraMaraMara… you getting my drift?

2. Kuch nahi toh aadhaar toh rahega hi!  #ConsolationPrize

3. #HacksMax

4. Mogambo elections se khush hua!

5. That’s okay, Congress. We get IT!

6. Clean bowled!

7. Oh so that’s how it happened?

8. Nagade sang dhol baaje, anyone?

9. Slowly slowly!

10. Dangal toh ho gaya. Ab mangal hoga?

11. Thanking you in anticipation. Yours sincerely, Padmavati.

12. Audience poll lena chahenge aap?

13. Pidi must be heartbroken though 🙁

14. Ouch!

15. Also, aloe?

One of the funniest tweets though came from none other than BJP spokespeson Tajinder Bagga who began the celebrations a little preemptively by bringing in a mushroom cake!

ICYMI, this is a direct snub at Congress leader Alpesh Thakore, who a few days ago had commented that PM Modi was dark like him, but had become fair by eating mushrooms imported from Taiwan worth Rs. 80,000! His comment provoked the Twitterati to unleash some savage ‘imported mushroom’ jokes, including a mocking tweet from Bagga himself.

And now this seems like yet another attempt to run salt in the wounds.

Now, if it’s elections, someone’s going to win and someone’s going to lose. But when it comes to Twitter, humour’s always the clear winner, hands down!
