GoAir To Pay ₹ 98,000 Compensation To Mumbai Man For Cancelling A Flight ‘Without Reason’

A Mumbai man, Jayesh Pandya booked 25 tickets on the low-cost carrier airlines, GoAir back in 2015. He had made the reservation for his guests arriving from Ahmedabad to Mumbai for his daughter’s wedding by paying a wholesome amount of around Rs 50,000. GoAir, reportedly, cancelled the flight on time, without any prior notice to Pandya.

As a result of which, he had to immediately book tickets on another flight which had cost him as huge as Rs 88,816.

The Vile Parle resident then approached the airlines for a refund but all in vain. He eventually filed an RTI query with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, reported Hindustan Times. The case was soon undertaken by the consumer forum.

The forum looked into the matter and has now directed the airlines to pay a compensation of Rs 98,000 to Pandya for cancelling tickets ‘without any reason’.

“I had made the wedding pooja arrangements based on the flight timings. In January 2015, I contacted the airlines to submit the passengers’ names. They, then, informed me the flight was cancelled. They offered no reasons,” Pandya told the forum.

The airline, however, claimed that they had informed Pandya about flight cancellation on mail. But they had no subsequent proofs to support their statement.

The forum has asked the airline to refund Pandya the amount of his tickets Rs 50000, the extra amount he paid to buy other flight tickets which was 38,816 plus Rs 10,000 as compensation making the total to Rs 98,816.
