Bengaluru Is The Least Livable City In India, Reports EIU’s Global Liveability Index 2022

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has released its Global Liveability Index 2022 which ranks the world’s most liveable cities using multiple methodologies and on the basis of several criteria like stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

This time around, five Indian cities have been named in EIU’s liveability rankings among 173 cities. However, the top ten positions were reserved by a majority of Western European countries with Vienna taking over the first place followed by Copenhagen in second place, and Zurich in third, reported Business Standard.

But sadly, Indian cities weren’t even able to back under 100 positions on the list. The country’s capital, New Delhi has been ranked in 112th position while Mumbai stood in 117th position. Chennai and Ahmedabad were ranked 142 and 143 respectively. However, Bengaluru was reportedly announced as the least livable city in India at 146th position.

Interestingly, Bengaluru stood first in the ‘Ease of Living Index ‘ that was released by the country last year. A report by Hindustan Times suggests that the silicon valley of India got only 46.4 out of 100 for infrastructure which is the lowest among the five Indian cities.

The scores on infrastructure are given on the basis of the quality of roads, public transport, international links, energy provision, telecommunications, water, and availability of good quality housing. This is the major reason why Bengaluru fared so badly on the list. Moving on, Tehran, Dhaka, Karachi, and Lagos were ranked among the least liveable cities in the world.

Probably this is an indication for these Indian cities to buck up their game and their infrastructure, especially with monsoons knocking on the doors.
