19 YO Girl Walks 60 Km To Marry Boyfriend In Andhra Pradesh Amid Lockdown

“Love knows no bounds.” Even if you’re in a lockdown. Like, recently, a Telangana ‘super mom’ rode 1400 km on a scooter to bring back her son stranded in Andhra. And, now in yet another example of unconditional love, a girl walked 60 km to marry her boyfriend.

Chitikala Bhavani, 19, who lives in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh decided to marry her boyfriend, Sai Punnayya, a resident of Edepalli village, reports News18. His place was located 60 km away from Bhavani’s village. And, as no transportation was available due to the lockdown, she decided to walk the long distance.

It all began when the couple, who have been together for 4 years, recently disclosed their relationship to their parents. Their family members were not happy with the revelation. The girl’s parents disagreed with their marriage. That’s when the lovebirds decided to elope.

However, their plans came to a halt when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nation-wide lockdown for 21 days. Helpless, and stuck at home, the woman decided to take matters into her own hand. She walked 60 km from her village to meet her boyfriend and get married to him.

“We contemplated getting married after the lockdown ends. But the current situation does not seem like that,” Chitikala was quoted saying.

She felt that the government was likely to extend the lockdown. And, as she couldn’t wait anymore, she reached her boyfriend on foot. But it wasn’t a happy ending for the newlyweds. The woman’s family began to threaten the couple. The terrified couple approached the cops for protection.

“Friday morning, a newly married couple approached us for protection. While taking their details we came to know the girl had walked a distance to marry her boyfriend,” local CI Venkata Narayan was quoted saying.

The girl’s family had lodged a missing complaint too. However, as both of them are adults, the police are giving the girl’s family members counseling. While the couple got lucky in this case, it is essential that we all stay indoors during these troubled times. It is important for us to self-quarantine to win the battle against COVID-19.
