In a horrific turn of events, the Uttar Pradesh police has found that a 21-year-old woman has been burnt alive after doctors declared her dead, while she was still breathing.

The woman, a resident of Noida, was declared dead due to lung infection by Sharda Hospital. The death certificate was issued on Sunday night at 11:45 pm. Eight hours later, she was cremated after her husband brought her to Aligarh district.

However, the woman’s brother found her death suspicious and called the Aligarh police. By the time the police reached the cremation ground, 70% of the body was already burnt.

On Monday, a two-doctor panel concluded that the woman died due to the shock of being burnt alive. The conclusion was made after charred particles were discovered inside her lungs and windpipe. A police official said,

“This (particles inside lungs and windpipe) happens when someone is burnt alive. The particles go inside with the breath. If a person is dead, such particles cannot reach the lungs and the windpipe. So, the doctors concluded that the woman was burnt alive on the pyre.”

After the medical reports were made public on Tuesday, the woman’s uncle lodged an FIR against her husband and ten other members of the family for raping and killing his niece.

No arrests, however, have been made so far.

On the other hand, Sharda hospital is firm on their stand that the woman was dead before her husband took her back. A hospital spokesperson said,

“The patient was brought in extremely critical condition and our doctors tried their best to save her. We stick to our stand that the patient had died due to lung infection on Sunday night.”

Only a detailed investigation of the matter will tell the complete story but if the allegations a true, this is a huge fault on the hospital’s part.
