People who occupy a kind of ‘privileged’ position in society like politicians or celebrities often think that they have a right to special treatment. The most common is cutting queues, which can be specifically seen during festivals.
Crowds of people are asked to step back while these ‘hot-shot’ men and women are given the privilege of stepping in or moving out first.
Even though most people raise objections to such privileges given to some, they don’t really express them loudly to the person concerned.
But a young college-going girl was a breath of fresh air when she fearlessly objected to Karnataka Home Minister MB Patil given special entry and immediate darshan at a temple on the occasion of Shiv Ratri.
Hundreds of people were standing in a queue in front of the 770 Amaraganadishara temple on Mahashivaratri under the scorching heat of the sun.
But the temple authorities decided to give preference to the Minister and those who accompanied him by rushing them inside to offer prayers, free of any hassle.
The young girl (unnamed) objected to this VIP treatment and insisted on Patil standing in the queue like the rest.
“You may be a minister but you have to stand in the queue like all of us. You can’t expect special treatment”, she said.
To this, Minister Patil tried to give her a certain ‘explanation’. He said that he was scheduled to attend some urgent official meetings and had a flight to catch from Hubballi airport. The girl was then convinced.
However, Minister Patil was impressed by the girl’s fearlessness and posed for a few photographs with her.
Kudos to her for standing up for what is right! Rules apply to all, irrespective of position.
