German Orchestra Plays ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ At Berlin Film Fest, KJo Pleasantly Surprised

It’s going to be 20 years since the cult film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai hit the theaters back in 1998. The classic Anjali-Rahul-Tina love triangle taught us many truths in life, the biggest for me of course has to be “Pyaar dosti hai.” And the other important thing I understood was that Shah Rukh Khan can basically carry off anything, even a necklace which says ‘cool’ on it and Speedo shorts!

Karan Johar’s directorial debut was indeed one of those epic coming of age romances that I think every 90s kid can watch and re-watch umpteen times. Give me a hoot if you’ve enacted the “kuch kuch hota hai Rahul, tum nahi samjhoge” line whenever someone kind of betrays you! (Nope, just me. Okay then.)

Kajol, Shah Rukh and Rani Mukherjee were the uber popular trio at the time. The film not only became a hit in the country but abroad as well. The Indian diaspora was so obsessed with Bollywood romances that the movies soon became synonymous with our culture and art.

To pay a tribute to the Bolly craze, the German orchestra played tunes of the title track from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and surprised the audience in Berlin.

Yes, you heard it right the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra played the iconic tune from the film and even had the audience clapping along. After the performance the auditorium roared with a thunderous round of applause.

The video went viral on Twitter with Bolly buffs sharing and liking the post. People were feeling nostalgic and were taken back to the old Bollywood days. Even Karan Johar shared the video and tweeted about it.

Many people talked about how beautifully the orchestra played. And I for one, agree to that wholeheartedly.

Watch the video below and if you’re anything like me, you won’t be able to help yourself but sing along to the melodious harmony.

Beautiful isn’t it? It feels so great that art and music has no language and can be understood and appreciated in any part of the world.

The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai soundtrack composed by Jatin-Lalit has something so soothing and pleasing to it that it directly touches your soul. It’s commendable that even after all these years it manages to have the same effect on people, but that’s what legendary art does right?!

If I was in the audience I would have definitely been the one to shout “ENCORE” and if the orchestra still would leave the stage I’d say, “Tussi ja rahe ho, tussi na jao!”
