George R.R. Martin Turns Down ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 8 Cameo

One of the greatest battles in pop culture history is set to reach its final conclusion in April 2019. Yes, the war for the iron throne finally ends in season 8 of Game of Thrones. In the run up to the finale, HBO has been keeping fans on the edge of their seats with pictures, a chilling teaser and footage of Daenerys & Sansa’s first meeting. If anything, these snippets have only increased our curiosity instead of satiating it.

The question on everyone’s minds – Will the Night King be defeated?

In our quest to gather every tidbit of information about season 8, we found that George R.R. Martin has turned down an offer to feature in a cameo of Game of Thrones. The reason? He is focusing all his energies on finishing the next book in the series, ‘The Winds of Winter’.

ICYMI, the epic fantasy novel series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ will have a total of seven volumes. Five of these have already been published, the fifth one being ‘A Dance With Dragons’. It came out in the year 2011 and avid fans have been patiently waiting for 8 years for the next instalment titled ‘The Winds of Winter’.

The author told Entertainment Weekly that,

“David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do. But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.”

Interestingly, he also revealed that previously he did shoot a cameo for the very first episode. He was a guest at Dany’s wedding but the footage never aired because the actress who originally played the role was replaced by Emilia Clarke and the whole sequence reshot.

It would have been great to see Martin in the show just as we saw Stan Lee appear in the Marvel movie franchise. Nevertheless, it is good news for book fans as this means the novel might get published soon.
