In the workplace, Gen Z and Millennials are like two opposite species. Gen Z strolls in, coffee in hand, with an air of “I’ll work, but I’m not selling my soul for this.” They know how to log off right at 5 PM and treat weekends like sacred holidays.
Meanwhile, Millennials are sitting at their desks – battered, bruised, overworked and underslept – probably because they’ve answered emails at 2 AM one too many times. While Gen Z is all about setting boundaries and saying “no” to overtime, Millennials are so wired for hustle that they’ll answer work messages from the doctor’s chamber.
For example, Siddharth Shah, an entrepreneur, shared how a Gen Z employee of his informed him about taking a leave. The employee didn’t even ask for leave – they directly said that they wouldn’t be coming.
“Hi Siddharth. I will be on leave on 8th Nov 2024. Bye,” the email read.

While several people were left flabbergasted upon seeing the Gen Z employee’s sheer audacity, others lauded them for being direct and said that this is how it should be. Have a look:
And if I had sent this message to my manager, he would have scheduled a meeting with HR to discuss my behaviour issues 😕😏

Best part is they tell you they are on leave and don’t ask

One of my Gen z team members suddenly declared 1 week leave. It was a critical time of the project so I tried to reason. He did not budge. The leave was because he had a breakup and he wanted to go to the mountains to forget the breakup.

It’s a spot on message tho 🥲.
But should have used least an AI to make it look good and formal 😂— Vedant Kalore (@VedantKalore) November 5, 2024
That’s how it should be. Brief crisp message. Or you want Angrezon ke zamane wale “I beg to request leave on Nov 8”? Glad zen z is no longer think they are beggars.

Wish all of us had this level of sass!
