A Gay Penguin Couple In Australia Are Raising A Chick And It’s Awwwdorable!

Becoming a parent can be one of the most overwhelming feelings in this world. While the rewarding experience is bound to please you emotionally, it also comes with a legion of responsibilities.

However, not everyone in this world has the opportunity to become parents. And similarly, for a gay penguin couple in Australia, parenthood was a distant dream.

Magic and Sphen, two gentoo penguins at Sydney’s Seal Life Aquarium formed an inseparable bond before this year’s breeding season. According to ABC News, their love was spotted by the staff when they noticed piles of ice pebbles the pair set up as a nest each day.

Seeing them leading a jubilant life as a couple, the staff at the aquarium decided to give them a dummy egg to enhance their parenting skills. Much to their surprise, the penguins started nurturing the fake egg in order to bring them to hatching.

Spotting the amazing sense of responsibility in Magic and Sphen, they were given a real egg to foster. And in a first, the couple become the first same-sex penguin couple to be handed an egg to raise.

If this isn’t cute, I don’t know what is.

It is to be noted that gentoo penguins usually have resources to raise only one egg. So when another normal penguin couple had two eggs, one of them was given to Magic and Sphen.

My heart and love go out for the two and their newly to-be-born baby. Congratulations cuties!
