Jon Snow May Have Fulfilled The Azor Ahai Prophecy In ‘Game Of Thrones’ Finale! Here’s How

Monday mornings are going to be boring again as there is no more Game of Thrones to look forward to. Even though the show has ended, the story lives on as we still have George RR Martin‘s final two books to read. Also, there are hilarious memes and fan theories to ponder over.

Reddit user UrFavoriteNobody put forth a new theory that suggests that Jon Snow is actually Azor Ahai because he fulfils ‘the Prince that was promised’ prophecy in the finale.

His suggestion rests on one important premise that the Night King isn’t the darkness referred to in the prophecy. Check it out.

So, is Jon Snow aka Aegon Targaryen Azor Ahai after all? Let’s look at all the clues and see if this theory holds water.

1. “When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.”

Earlier, fans assumed that the red star is the red comet seen when Dany’s dragons hatched. But when Bran travelled back in time to witness Jon’s birth, Ned Stark placed Sir Arthur Dayne’s blood-stained sword by Lyanna’s bed. The famed sword called ‘Dawn’ was believed to have been forged out of a fallen star.

Jon Snow was stabbed by his brothers of the Night’s Watch and his wounds smoked and some people cried while doing it which might account for the salt. His resurrection might refer to waking dragons out of stone as he is a Targaryen.

2. “In this dread hour, a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer.”

The OG Azor Ahai is said to have forged Lightbringer by piercing it through his wife’s (Nissa Nissa) heart. Jon did something similar while killing Dany. His blade might have been imbued with fire from Dany (a true-blood Targaryen).

3. “The Long Night is coming. Only the Prince Who Was Promised can bring the dawn. Prophecies are dangerous things. I believe you have a role to play, as does another — the King in the North, Jon Snow.”

And finally, if we go by the Reddit thread that the Night King isn’t the representation of darkness and Dany is, then he did rid the world of the ‘Mad Queen’.

The only person who can deny or confirm this theory though is the author himself. Guess we just have to wait for his version to know for sure.
