Siberian Village Recorded A Temperature Of -62°C And Even People’s Eyelashes Are Freezing!

Winter is here! Yeah, I know it’s the most generic GOT line I could say. But what you’re about to see is going to put even the north of the wall to shame.

Welcome to the coldest village of Siberia, Oymyakon. It’s so freezing cold in this part of the world that the temperature was recorded at a shivery -62° C according to The Sun.

It’s like a white blanket everywhere. (I’m getting chills down my spine just looking at these pictures!)

The icy temperature was recorded on a digital thermometer that was installed last year to help Oymyakon market itself to tourists. According to Daily Mail, the village hosts only 500 people. And in the 1920s and 30s was a stopover for reindeer herders.

I would go and do hats off to those 500 people, but I don’t think I could get myself to take my hat off if I’m in Oymyakon.

Daily problems include logistical issues that one may find very basic. The pen ink freezes, glasses freeze to people’s faces and the lot. Locals are even said to leave their cars running all day for fear of not being able to restart them.

That must cause a fortune I’m sure.

Just to give you a perspective of how cold it is in Oymyakon, people are posting pictures with icicles on their eyelashes. What!?

1. This girl shared a picture completely covered in white.

2. The only other time there’s so much white on a girl’s face is when a bride is covered in a veil.

3. How do they talk to each other though with so many layers on?

4. It looks so cold and dreary if I’d be there I would probably be hibernating.

5. How is he still smiling?

6. Ice… ice everywhere!

7. White eyelashes, red cheeks, and that smile. Ovaries exploding in 3…2…1…

8. Even the eyebrows are frozen.

9. How do these people even get out of bed?

10. The only good part is you can put on clothes after clothes and tuck away all that extra fat. (At least that’s the silver lining I’m seeing for myself.)

I don’t know about you but even though I’m in Bombay, I’m still going to sit in front of a heater after looking at these pictures. *shivers*
