Delhi Doctors Remove A 24Kg Tumour The Size Of 2 Footballs From A Tanzanian Man’s Stomach!

A 32-year-old African citizen from Tanzania was relieved of his abdomen tumour after being operated in Delhi. The tumour weighed a staggering 24 kilograms, the size of two footballs and was 36 by 40 cm in size.

Aloyce John Jawe, a resident of Dar es Salaam was operated in Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh after he failed to find treatment in his own country.

Reportedly, Jawe was suffering from tumour pain since 2017. After he was unable to find the right treatment for the tumour in his own country, he decided to visit India.

It was medical tourism that brought Jawe to India like so many other foreign nationals every year who seek affordable yet efficient treatments. The man confirmed that an article on the internet about multiple satisfied African patients seeking treatment in India encouraged him to seek help from Indian medical practitioners.

“I underwent a surgery in Tanzania, but despite the long incision made in my body the doctor, there could not remove the tumour. Then I read on the internet about many Africans going to India seeking treatment and coming back satisfied. So I decided to visit India,” Jawe told reporters.

The procedure that took nearly 6 hours resulted in heavy blood loss. However, the doctors we ready with blood, plasma and platelets post the surgery.

“Jawe came to the hospital in a very weak condition with a life-threatening tumour which was huge and malignant and weighed 24 kg. It was a vascular tumour which means it was getting blood supplies and therefore quite dense. We operated on him on May 31 this year and he had to be put on a ventilator for four days post-surgery,” said Pradeep Jain, Director, Gastrointestinal Oncology, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.

“Within two weeks of the surgery, he has recovered and is doing well. He will be given targeted oral chemotherapy now to ensure full recovery and avoid any re-occurrence,” the doctor added.

Over the years, multiple patients have been seeking treatments in India be it cosmetic surgery or even cancer treatments as in this case. It has made India quite a hub for medical tourism.
