FM Says, ‘I Come From A Family That Doesn’t Care About Onions’, Twitter Responds With Memes

It’s already making my eyes water just thinking about onions. The ever increasing onion prices in the country have made them the topic of discussions. People even took to social media and mocked the skyrocketing onion prices with funny memes. But looks like the country’s onion crisis is not going to be resolved soon.

Discussions around onions prices have now reached Lok Sabha with people questioning the establishment of the incessant price rise. When the union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman was answering a question posed by NCP MP Supriya Sule about the production and the rising price of onions, an MP intervened and asked her, “Aap pyaaz khaate hain?”.

To which FM Sitharaman responds, “Main itna lehsun, pyaaz nahi khati hoon ji. Main aise pariwar se aati hoon jaha onion, pyaaz se matlab nahi rakhte. (I don’t eat a lot of onions and garlic, so don’t worry. I come from a family that doesn’t care much about onions and garlic),” reported TOI.

Sitharaman’s statement irked the public who believed as the union minister, it was her duty to care about issues concerning a majority of the population even when they did not impact her personally.

Soon #SayItLikeNirmalaTai started trending on twitter where people mocked her ‘inconsiderate’ statement.

FYI, onions are currently priced at Rs.150 per kilogram in India. So better put your onions in a safe and prevent them from being stolen. A vegetable seller in West Bengal already lost Rs. 50K worth of onions to thieves. Also, if you are in dire need of onions, you can buy them on loan by giving your Aadhar card and Jewellery as collaterals.
