Parents are always an inspiration for their children, heroes that they look up to and get their courage from. However, there are instances when the children become their parents’ inspiration and empower them to have a go at their dreams. That has been the case for Corey House and her father, Eric, of Detroit, Michigan.
Corey House and Eric House became the world’s first transgender Daughter-Father duo with a really heartwarming story full of inspiration and love!
When Corey was an 11-year-old boy, he came out to his parents and told them how he did not identify with the body he was born in. He had always felt like he was a girl.
Of course, Corey wasn’t sure of their reaction, but his mother, Erica, was very supportive of her. She even gave him his first box of estrogen!
Speaking to Mirror UK, Corey said,
“They didn’t really react since I’m still who I’ve always been. The only thing that was different was that I started wearing girls’ clothes outside of the house. I finally felt free once my family knew.”
And look at Corey now! She has finally transitioned into a beautiful girl, someone who she always felt like!
Around the same time that Corey had the realisation about her gender, so did her mom, Erica. However, Erica decided to support Corey and keep her secret for the moment.
But eventually, inspired by her daughter’s transition, Erica finally came out to her husband and six children that she actually identified as a man! And thus, began her transition too! Meet Corey’s DAD, Eric!
Being liberated from the need to hide his true identity from his family, Eric couldn’t have been happier!
“It was an awful secret to keep from my family. My loved ones were awesome, almost like nothing really changed. My husband has been supportive through everything. Our relationship is actually stronger and better than it ever has been in the 10 years we’ve been together.”
From being Erica and Corey, a mother-son duo, they’re now Eric and Corey, a daddy-daughter duo who are going through their transitions together and being each other’s support systems!
Corey is glad to have inspired people, particularly her father Eric, to finally accept who they are and not hide it from the world.
“I am so happy that my story inspires people and is saving lives. I want to tell anyone out there who is trans to find someone you can talk to. Find someone who wont judge you that you can go to if you need a friend.”
As for the transformed and happy Eric, he wants his story to send an important message to everyone:
“My message would be to never, ever be ashamed of who you are, and never let anyone else’s view of you make you think you are less than you are. Always be proud of who you are.”
