Hilarious Illustrations Show How Parents Behave During First and Second Children

Parenting is one of the toughest jobs in the world. It comes with a great deal of responsibility and not a single instruction manual on how to handle tough situations. That’s one of the reasons why first-time parents are so particular about everything during the pregnancy.

If you have a sibling, then you already know there’s a lot of difference between the first born and the second born child. From the way the parents are during pregnancy to the way they raise the children, everything is slightly different.

Artist Weng Chen from China, currently living in the USA is a VR game designer, an artist and a mother. She beautifully illustrated the difference between a firstborn and a second born in a series of comics called The Messy Cow Comics.

She was inclined to be an artist ever since she was a little girl and started The Messy Cow on a random whim. Although it illustrates her life with a husband and two daughters, it is relatable to every parent out there.

1. When you’re eating for two, screw the diet.

2. The milk is just not that important the second time around.

3. Whatever you eat, the baby eats too.

4. The first one’s clothes automatically become the second one’s wardrobe.

5. You panic about the slightest thing about the firstborn but manage to stay pretty calm with the second one.

6. The first time, you want all their attention; the second time, you want all their attention diverted away from you.

7. Every achievement of the firstborn is huge because well, it’s all new for the parents, ya know?

8. You just can’t wait for the kids to go to school so you can have some ‘me-time’.

9. You’ve learnt that whatever you do, the baby will fall sick. So you might as well let it do what it wants.

10. Special early learning activities are replaced by learning in the middle of daily chores.

11. Like clothes, the old toys get passed down to the second born.

12. You have tonnes of albums for the firstborn, and a backup of all the pictures on cloud storage for the second born.

13. You go from being treated like a queen the first time to becoming a maid the second time around.

14. Even your friends are not that excited about it.

Maybe the difference exists because the first time around, parents are pretty clueless, so they go overboard with everything. But when it’s time for the second baby, you know that whatever they do, it’ll be alright. And you’ll be alright. Love it or hate it, you just cannot deny the truth of these comics, can you?
