Politicians and lies go hand in hand, at least the ‘janta’ believes so! From false promises to making people believe that the Indian national anthem has been voted the best in the world by the UN, our politicians have done it all. And apparently, the Indian public finds no big deal in it! Because white lies are a part and parcel of everyone’s life to some extent.
Well, not if you are a citizen of Finland!
Because telling lies especially when you are a politician or a Prime Minister can cost you your chair. Finnish PM Antti Rinne, who took the office in June earlier this year tendered his resignation to President Sauli Niinisto recently because he lied.
Al Jazeera reports that Rinne has been constantly lying about the postal services reforms by the government for a long time.
“All of the governing parties have confidence in me, except for the Centre Party. When I was told why they no longer have confidence in me, I made the decision to resign,” Rinne told Malta Times.
“All of the government parties are committed to the… government programme. If (me) being prime minister jeopardizes the government program, it is better that I steer clear of it,” he further added.
The news came as a shock for many Indians who couldn’t believe that a PM could resign on the basis of a lie that he has told to the public. And the Indian ‘awaam’ burst out with hilarious reactions on Twitter, have a look!

It must feel so nice to be governed by someone who is embarrassable. Dear Leader is basically writing the handbook for organised crime & politics, all the while pretending to be our savour. https://t.co/bEvrA4vSSt

So, Finland's postal workers went on strike for two weeks.
The prime minister was asked to explain the govt's statements and actions.
Parliament said the explanations were not acceptable and asked the PM to resign.
He resigned.

Rinne belongs to the ruling party, called the Social Democrat Party which will now work on appointing his successor. We wonder in case India had such rules, would our parliament even match the quorum of a deliberative assembly? What do you think? Tell us!
