It’s 2020 and unfortunately, many women are still harassed for what they choose to wear. But a lot of us fight back against sexism in our own little ways. For instance, women showed off their legs online after an 18-year old actress got shamed for wearing shorts, or when a commentator corrected a Pakistan reporter after he took a dig at her for wearing ‘heels’.
As per a report in News18, Finland’s prime minister Sanna Marin posed for the October issue of Trendi Magazine wearing a low-neck blazer with presumably no shirt underneath. The cover story featured Marin talked about the demands and difficulties of managing work and family life. The magazine shared the image on their Instagram handle, captioning it, “Prime Minister Sanna Marin has a leading position as an example, a role model, a change of things, and an influencer. The work is high-pressure, but good sleep and iron nerves help.”
But she was morally policed on social media for her attire in the photoshoot, tagging it as ‘inappropriate’, which in turn sparked a debate about sexism.
But it also prompted a positive outpouring of support on social media for the 34-year old PM, reports CNN. “I think it speaks of women being tired and fed up with being restricted and told how to act and look and behave, and being judged by their looks — if you’re young and beautiful, then you can’t be taken seriously,” said Mari Paalosalo-Jussinmäki, who is the director of women’s media at A-lehdet magazine group which publishes Trendi magazine.
Several people then started posting pictures of themselves wearing similar attires in solidarity. Subsequently, the hashtags #SupportSanna and #ImWithSanna started trending on Twitter. Check it out:

Men also joined to speak against the scrutiny women face, by wearing jackets in a similar fashion:

There should be no space for sexism when it comes to leadership. Do you agree? Tell us!
