Filipino Surfer Ditches Sure-Shot Gold To Save Competitor From Drowning In South East Asian Games

We live in a world where far too many people are engrossed with winning. They would rather trample another to reach the top. Amidst such self-centeredness and greed for success, it is good to see people keeping competition aside and choose humanity instead, like this surfer.

According to a report by Fox Sports, one Filipino surfer sacrificed a sure-shot gold medal to save another competitor from drowning in the ongoing South-East Asian Games.

Filipino surfer Roger Casugay was in neck-to-neck competition with another surfer from Indonesia named Arip Nurhidayat. Roger was winning and onlookers were sure that he would go back home with a gold medal. However, in the middle of the competition, Arip’s surfing board leash snapped, which caused him to almost drown.

Another report by Jakarta News says that people saw a drowning Arip waving his hand and trying his best to rise from the violent waves. It is then when Roger rescued him, pulled him to his surfboard, and rode to the beach safely.
