There Are Men Who Think #MeToo Is A Cry For Attention And This Is Part Of The Problem

men

The past few hours have been monumental in the life of every woman. Be it Indian or not, Twitter is filled with horrific and harrowing stories of brave women who chose to join their hands and raise their voice, in unison, echoing ‘ME TOO’.

Women who came out to protest against sexual harassment of any type and form, and women who put their foot down to challenge years of patriarchal mindset.

But while thereĀ are men who are lending their support and offering apologies to women who have been through hell, the cause is lost on a bunch of few who think that it is another cry for attention! Hell, they have been come up with their own hashtag- #MenToo

If you do not believe me, see the sorry scenario for yourself.Ā

No, I’m not aĀ male-basher and no, abuse doesn’t discriminate between genders but something tells me, and by something I mean facts, that it is mostly a woman who is at the receiving end of the bargain.Ā Like that is not enough, victim-shaming shows its ugly face and the same woman is tried and tested, even humiliated for surviving the trauma. She is the one who is expected to live with the stigma like it is her fault.

While we applaud the men who are standing with us in this dire time of need, it is a few who are failing to see the problem for what it is. I mean, I apologise if we have flooded your timelines with our complaints but let’s make sure we are the last ones to do so.
