If you’re a true Marvel fan, you’ve probably already read about the films and series that make up Phase 4 of the MCU. It was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 20th, 2019 and included titles like Black Widow, Eternals, WandaVision, Loki and many more.
But what had us most excited was a break from the trilogy rule to give us “Thor: Love and Thunder” (the 4th film in the franchise) starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman.

The film directed by Taika Waititi is slated for a November 5, 2021 release and features a new God of Thunder. Yes, Jane Foster is back and will wield Mjolnir as the new Thor.
There's a new thunder god in town. Here's everything you need to know about Natalie Portman as female Thor https://t.co/zuwO5kc75R pic.twitter.com/bxN4s3B9yY

Jane Foster played Thor’s love interest in the franchise’s first two instalments (Thor and The Dark World) but their relationship didn’t work out. According to Mirror UK, her story arc is inspired by the comic-book series “Thor: God of Thunder” written by Jason Aaron. In 2014, the comics introduced a female Thor who wielded the Asgardian hammer and saved the Earth from frost giants.
But the announcement had many fans expressing disappointment with the fact that Natalie was being referred to as “female Thor” when Chris was never called “male Thor”.
jane foster is not ‘female thor’, kate bishop is not ‘female hawkeye’ and sam wilson is not ‘black captain america’, they ARE thor and hawkeye and captain america. the mantle is theirs. just call them their names.

The proper term for a female scientist is scientist. The proper term for a female athlete is athlete. The proper term for a female Thor is Thor.

Can I have your attention please.
Jane Foster is not Female Thor or Thor Girl.
Her name is The Mighty Thor.
Get it right. #MightyThor pic.twitter.com/qU3I1wJf8g

But the director cleared the confusion soon enough. This Thor is Mighty!
Correction. She's called Mighty Thor.

Apart from Mighty Thor, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be portrayed as MCU’s first LGBTQ superhero. She’s a bisexual warrior who’ll be taking over as the ruler of the Asgardians, a mantle which Thor bestowed upon her before leaving with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Two powerful women teaming up to save the world? This will certainly be epic, can’t wait!
